Hanani Mazlan

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Siti Nur Hanani Binti Mazlan. I am a student at University Malaysia Kelantan with a keen interest in and knowledge in Textiles and Fashion. I have been studying in the field of fashion for 9 years and I am eager to further develop my skills and experiences in this domain.

The purpose of this portfolio is to provide an overview of the skills and expertise that I possess. Here, you will find a variety of projects that I have worked on. Each project showcases the creative approach and technical skills that I have applied to achieve satisfactory results.

DVM FINALE YEAR PROJECT - (2018)

Theme :

The state emblem of Malaysia.

Subject matter :

The Hornbill.

My chosen state is Sarawak, which is the largest state in Malaysia. It is located in East Malaysia and is known as the Land of the Hornbills. These birds are important cultural symbols for the Dayak community, representing the spirit of divinity.

The Hornbill, also known as Burung Enggang in Malay, is a bird species characterized by its horn-like bill, resembling that of a cow but without a complete circle, sometimes with stripes on the upper part of its crest.

This project is the culmination of my final year at KVSP2, where I have created three pairs of stylish and sophisticated smart casual outfits for women. Each ensemble combines elegance with comfort, showcasing innovative design elements and empowering women to embrace their unique fashion expression.

SURFACE PATTERNING PROJECT - (2022)

Theme :

Malaysia Traditionally Outfit

Subject matter :

Persalinan Gajah Oleng (Sawarak Malay Outfit)

Mean :

In this ensemble, various adornments are included such as Keringkam (embroidered headdress), Gelang Aluk (bracelets), Geroncong Kaki (ankle chains), and more. Different head ornaments like Kepih Dahi, Maskota (crown), and Sisir (comb) are also part of the ensemble. These adornments vary based on tradition and are often inherited through generations. Gajah Oleng is worn by Sarawak Malay women, while Datar Serinding Awan Raja Datu Gudam is worn by Sarawak Malay men during the ceremonial event.

For the motif, I focus solely on the adornments. Using various embroidery techniques, a captivating motif is meticulously created on a tote bag, adding artistic flair and personalization to the accessory. Each stitch is thoughtfully placed, resulting in a visually striking and intricately detailed design that showcases the timeless beauty of handcrafted artistry.

FASHION TEXTILE DESIGN: TEXTURE - (2022)

Subject matter :

Social Media

Taking inspiration from "The Use of Social Media," several social media logos and homepages are used as a source of inspiration. The distinctive features of the logos and the color schemes used showcase their unique characteristics.

Social media is a form of media that utilizes the internet as a means of global communication, primarily through virtual platforms. It is defined as "a group of internet-based applications built on the ideological and technological foundations of Web 2.0, and that enable the creation and exchange" by Andreas Kaplan and Michael Haenlein.

In this project, a diverse range of textile techniques is employed to create captivating textured motifs on the fabric, adding depth and visual interest to the garments.

FASHION RETAIL / WINDOW DISPLAY - (2022)

Classic minimalist

Subject matter :Boho Waistcoat Style

I produce regular-sized fashion products and one small-sized fashion product, and design the layout of the window display. The window display box only uses small boxes.

The product I have produced is a Boho-style waistcoat that incorporates batik patterns.

A boho waistcoat is a sleeveless, free-spirited garment with unique patterns and embellishments. It adds a bohemian flair to outfits, reflecting a carefree and individualistic style.

Shangri-La

Flora Fantasy :

A captivating world where extraordinary plants come to life, showcasing vibrant colors, magical properties, and enchanting abilities. Immerse yourself in this imaginative realm where nature's wonders take center stage.

Shangri-La :

A mythical paradise of serenity and beauty, hidden amidst majestic mountains, where nature and harmony coexist in perfect balance.

In this project, I have crafted stunning wall decorations in the form of screens using techniques such as weaving, embroidery, and more. Each piece showcases intricate patterns, textures, and artistic flair, adding warmth and charm to any space. It is a testament to the transformative power of wall art in enhancing the ambiance and expressing personal creativity.

DRAPING - (2022)

Valentino Design

Subject matter :

Oasis

Mean : 'Yama' means mountain and zakura/sakura is the Cherry Blossom tree, it is also a symbol of 'ephemeral beauty'.

Petal : Five small petals

Color : Soft pink. flower and Brown leaves.

As the climate warms, the brown leaves turn lush green.

Yamazakura is the most popular and well-known cherry blossom compared to other cherry blossoms. Usually grows wild in mountainous areas in Honshu (except northern Tohoku region), Shikoku region and Kyushu.

As for this project I more focus to East Asia country textile design, which is Japan, Korea and China. And also make a design out of those three country traditionally outfit such as Kimono from Japan, Hanbok from Korea, and also Hanfu from China.

WOMEN'S CLOTHING TECHNOLOGY - (2022)

Shanghai Tower

Chinese name is “上海中心”, literally means Shanghai Center.

Shanghai Tower is situated very close to both the Jin Mao Tower and Shanghai World Financial Center, which are two other tallest buildings in the city. Due to its significant height Shanghai Tower is very easy to be seen from the Bund and many other different places in the city.

In this captivating project, I draw inspiration from the magnificent Shanghai Tower to create fashion sketches that embody its architectural splendor. The sketches seamlessly blend structural elements with sartorial artistry, resulting in a collection that celebrates the fusion of modernity and timeless elegance.

MEN'S CLOTHING TECHNOLOGY &

TEXTILE PRINTING - (2022)

Fashion Designer

Subject matter :

Yohji Yamamoto

Yohji Yamamoto is a renowned fashion designer known for his avant-garde and innovative approach. His rebellious aesthetic redefines style with dark hues, asymmetry, and oversized silhouettes. He has made a significant impact on the industry, earning global recognition and a dedicated following.

By drawing inspiration from the fashion designs of Yohji Yamamoto, I have selected one piece from the Spring 2019 menswear collection as my creative adaptation. For this project, I have sewn a men's jacket.

Furthermore, the printing project also collaborates using the same theme, where I need to create patterns to be printed on bandanas, mugs, and caps. As for pattern design, I use Spring 2023 Menswear as my reference. In this opportunity, I have also challenged myself by creating my own cap.

Animal Mask

Subject matter :

Jackal

An animal mask is a decorative accessory resembling the face of an animal. It is worn for cultural events, rituals, or as part of costumes, allowing individuals to embody the spirit and symbolism of the chosen animal.

A jackal is a cunning and adaptable wild canine found in Africa, Asia, and Southeastern Europe. Known for its slender body, pointed ears, and bushy tail, it is an intelligent hunter with distinct vocalizations.

MALAY COSTUME - (2023)

Theme :

Female Malay Traditionally Outfit

Subject matter :

Rainbow Fabric (Tie and Dye)

Tie and Dye is a technique that uses tying and coloring to create designs on fabrics. It prevents color from spreading to certain areas. It gained popularity through festivals like Woodstock in the US. It is also popular in Japan (Shibori), India (Bandhna), South Africa (Indigo Dye), Thailand (Mudmee tie-dye), and Laos. In Malaysia, it is closely associated with Batik, using tying instead of wax as a resist.

In the creation of this design, I have drawn inspiration from the rich and diverse traditional Malay attire found across different states in Malaysia. Each state has its distinct style and elements that contribute to the beauty and uniqueness of Malay fashion.

Casual & Fall

For the first assignment which is an individual project, I have been given the assignment to produce the front cover of a fashion magazine and also tell a little about myself and the brand (the brand is just an example).

While for the second task, it is a group project where we have to work in a group to produce a fashion photobook. The theme chosen by our group is Fall Season.
